UEFA Champions League, a tournament where the top teams in every European league meet every season. The top teams of domestic competition play against each other to lift Europe’s one of the most valuable trophies. La Liga giants started to dominate the European domination since the 2010-11 season.
Two La Liga teams – Real Madrid and Barcelona – booked the spots on top 4 round of the competition that season.
They played against each other and Barcelona went through semi-final and lifted trophy against Manchester United. And from that season two of the four spots on semi-final have been filled by Spanish Clubs.
Miracle happen to Chelsea at Camp Nou in the semi-final. They were down to ten men and were sure to get knocked out. However, they managed to reach the final with the superb goal from Fernando Torres.
On the other semi-final game, Real Madrid couldn’t go through the semi-final once again. And this time Bayern stopped them in the penalty shootout.
Later, Chelsea had great day in final at Munich and lifted the trophy for the first time in their history.
This season same La Liga teams – Real Madrid and Barcelona – again reached the semi-final. They were drawn against two German teams Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich respectively. Football fans already fantasised El Clasico in Champions League final but the dream was all over in the first leg when Dortmund thrashed Madrid four goals to one and Bayern beat Barcelona four goals to none both in Germany. In second leg Real Madrid shown some hope but were not able to score more than two goals and on the other game Bayern again outplayed Barcelona and scored three goals in Spain.
And the world enjoyed all Germany final instead. Bayern Munich won their fifth title in England.
Real Madrid had already failed to reach the finals since 2002. They had to regain their winning ways in Champions League as they were the team to have won the competition nine times: more than any other clubs.
Real Madrid signed talented and fastest young player – Gareth Bale – from Tottenham Hotspur for a world record fee.
Barcelona, on the other hand, signed young Brazilian talent – Neymar – from Santos Football Club.
This season also two teams from La Liga appeared on semi-final round. This year there was Real Madrid but not Barcelona. Instead the other Spanish Capital Club – Atletico Madrid – booked the place. They were drawn to Bayern Munich and Chelsea respectively.
To the surprise of the whole world, this season fans were able to watch two finalists from the same city: Madrid. It was not only all Spain Final but was all Madrid Final. The new player of Real Madrid, Bale, helped the club to take the lead in the game in extra time after ending 90 mins in the 1-1 draw. Atletico Madrid almost made Real Madrid’s hope to win La Decima a dream once again, but Ramos was a saviour as he scored the equalizer in the 93rd minute. And in the extra time, Real Madrid defeated their city rival four goals to one and lifted La Decima.
Barcelona had to do something to dominate Champions League again.
Real Madrid signed FIFA World Cup golden shoe winner James Rodriquez; meanwhile, Barcelona won the race to sign Premier League Golden Shoe winner Luis Suarez.
In 2015 Real Madrid and Barcelona both reached semi-final once again and drew against Juventus and Bayern Munich respectively. Barcelona won the semi-final against Bayern Munich, but fate didn’t give us an El Clasico in Berlin. Juventus stopped Real Madrid in the semifinal, with Morata in the scoresheet. Barcelona then lifted their 5th trophy in Berlin.
Real Madrid sacked Carlo Ancelotti and appointed Rafa Benitez. They struggled at the beginning of the season and again sacked Benitez in the middle of a season. Madrid eventually signed their former legend Zinedine Zidane who was assistant manager to Ancelotti during the 2013-14 season.
This season again two teams from Spain – Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid – reached top 4 and created the opportunity to play all Madrid final once again in three years. Final in Milan couldn’t find the winner until penalty shootout. Ronaldo scored the winning penalty to win La UnDecima under Zidane.
Sevilla in UEFA Europa League
The dominance of Spanish team in European Competition is not limited to Champions League. On the other hand, Sevilla – another Spanish Team – won UEFA Europa League three times in a row from 2013-14 season till 2015-16 season.

And for three years UEFA Super League hosted the game between two Spanish Teams. Real Madrid won the contest in 2014, Barcelona in 2015 and again Real Madrid in 2016.
