Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez is confident that star duo Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta will extend their contracts.
Messi’s contract is going to expire at the end of next season which is a worry for Catalan Club.
Argentine forward is linked with a massive move to Manchester City. Messi worked under Pep Guardiola in his best years as a player. The Spanish boss is keen to reunite with the player, despite his confessions that Messi is a Barcelona man.
Lionel Messi is an integral part of Barcelona’s play. After all, he is arguably the world’s best player. The Argentine makes football look easy with a finesse about his play.
Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta also has an expiring contract. The Spanish midfielder has only played for Barcelona in his career – and his key to Barcelona’s midfield. He, alongside Xavi and Sergio Busquets, laid the foundations for Barcelona to succeed under Pep Guardiola.
No second thoughts for Barcelona
However, Fernandez is not worried about the situation. He firmly believes that Messi and Iniesta are going to extend their contracts with the club and they are happy at Barcelona.
“Messi will renew; I have always said that. Leo is happy in Barcelona, euphoric here, and in a magnificent team. I have no doubts that he will renew.
The Blaugrana director continued: “Iniesta will, too. He will renew at the moment he chooses. Andres deserves the best.
Iniesta – a special player
“He grew here as a player and gives everything to the club. He’s special in every sense; everyone loves him. I can’t imagine a Barcelona without him and he can’t either.” he told Cadena SER.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has so far stalled on his contract talks. Reportedly, an appropriate replacement to Luis Enrique is on his contract demands. The player is also likely to become La Liga’s highest paid player with the contract extension.
The player’s mainstay at Barcelona will be substantial for the Spanish club. Barcelona are dominating the scenes at Europe and Spain alongside Real Madrid in the recent seasons.
