Real Madrid and Portugal defender Pepe will wait until the end of his contract for the club to offer him a new deal.
Contract expiring in the summer
Pepe joined Real Madrid in 2007 from Porto, and he recently celebrated his ten years at Spanish Club. His contract with Champions League holder is going to end in June, and he has not received new till now. The 34 years old says he will wait until the last moment however the decision is not in his hand.
Injuries this season
Pepe scored the first goal at Santiago against their city rival and later suffered a double rib break after crashing with team-mate Toni Kroos. Since his debut at Real Madrid, Pepe has won every trophy, including two Champions League and two La Liga.
This year, however, he has suffered a series of hamstring and calf injuries which limited him to just 18 appearances.
An honour to play for Real Madrid
Pepe wants to stay at Real Madrid until the last moment of his football career and believes that it is an honour to play for Real Madrid.
He said, “I have already mentioned, I will wait for Madrid until the last second, I sacrifice every day to be here. For me, it is a great honour to be here.”
“I want the fans to be euphoric because I have always tried to honour this shirt, learning from guys like Raul, showing team spirit and respecting those at the stadium. I always want to give my utmost to try and bring happiness to the supporters.”
He added, “I have a contract until June 30. I am just focusing on returning as soon as possible to help the team. We are going to give it our all for the rest of the season to win all of the competitions we are in.”
