Players to watch in the Confederations Cup 2017


FIFA Confederations Cup was dominated by five times world cup winner Brazil for past 12 years.

Brazil had won the competition since 2005, however, this time they will not be able to defend their title as they were eliminated by Paraguay in Copa America 2015 and Germany in World Cup 2014.
Russia (Host team), Germany (World Cup winner), Portugal (Euro Cup Winner), Mexico (CONCACAF Cup winner), Cameroon (Africa Cup of Nations Winner), Chile (Copa America Winner), Australia (AFC Asian Cup Winner) and New Zealand (OFC Nations Cup Winner) are the participants of 2017 Confederation Cup.
Let’s look at some of the great players in Confederations Cup.

Artem Dzyuba (Russia)

The Russian striker has scored 11 goals in 22 appearances for his national team since 2011. Currently playing for Zenit Saint Petersburg, Dzyuba can give the best performance in Confederation Cup and help his national team in the competition.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

Four-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, is the most important player in 2017 confederation cup. After winning his first international trophy as a captain, Real Madrid striker will now lead his national team in the Confederations Cup for the first time.

Nani (Portugal)

After having good competition at France in 2016, Nani has another chance to show his skills and talents in FIFA Confederation Cup. Portuguese winger scored three goals and served as captain after Ronaldo was forced to leave the pitch in final of Euro Cup 2016 because of injury.

Pepe (Portugal)

Real Madrid centre defender missed a lot of games this season because of injury but he is still the main man at Portugal. His defensive skills had helped his nation lift the European glory last year.

Giovani dos Santos (Mexico)

The Mexican attacking midfielder had a lot of good games while playing for his national team. He was named as “Player of Tournament” in 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Andres Guardado (Mexico)

Andres Guardado had helped his country win two Gold Cups including in 2011 and 2015. IN 2015 he was named as “Player of Tournament”. And now he will lead his side to the Confederation Cup at Russia.

Javier Hernandez (Mexico)

Javier Hernandez was picked up in the previous Confederation Cup in which he scored three goals. Former Manchester United striker had to miss the 2015 Gold Cup because of broken collar bone, however, he is available for the confederation cup and is willing to seal the title for the first time.

Vincent Aboubakar (Cameroon)

Vincent Aboubakar scored 88th-minute goal in the final of 2017 Africa Cup of Nations against Egypt and ended his nation’s 15-year wait for continental crown.

The Bayern Munich man was named in the 2015 Copa America Squad and later he helped his team win the first ever international trophy. He scored three goals in the tournament. And also in Copa America Centenario, a year later, he earned the place in Team of the Tournament.

Alexis Sanchez (Chile)

Alexis Sanchez has helped his country win 2015 Copa America and Copa America Centenario in 2016. He was named as best player of the tournament in 2016 after leading his team to lift the second international trophy in two years.

Eduardo Vargas (Chile)

Eduardo Vargas, Chilean forward, has inspired his nation to lift two international trophies in two years. He scored four goals in 2015 and 6 goals in 2016 Copa America and was awarded as top scorer in both tournaments. He will be looked by everyone in this year’s Confederation Cup.

Massimo Luongo (Australia)

The 24 years old Queens Park Rangers’ midfielder had a great international tournament in 2015. He helped his nation win the first ever AFC Asian Cup title and later was awarded as the “Best Player of the Tournament”.

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen (Germany)

Barcelona shot-stopper had a great chance to show his talent in the absence of world’s greatest goal keeper: Manuel Neuer. Football fans can watch him in action for the international team in this year’s Confederations Cup.

Julian Draxler (Germany)

The German winger has the opportunity to show his ability to use both feet, his speed, and the power of his shot in the Confederations Cup. After winning FIFA World Cup in 2014 as a substitute player, Draxler now will be willing to seal the Confederations Cup.

Joshua Kimmich (Germany)

Bayern Munich defender, Kimmich, was selected in 2016 Euro Cup squad which was his first international tournament. He started final group game and became the first choice right back until Germany’s last game. He was named in UEFA’s Team of the tournament.
