Manchester United vs Benfica: Jose Mourinho’s men look to seal their berth at Champions League round of 16 in a cracker against Benfica.
Manchester United were ruthless against Tottenham in the weekend as they registered a vital victory. However, things will be easier for the Reds against Benfica who have struggled in Champions League so far.
A win will be key as United look to put the group to rest. With nine points out of nine, United are in the driving seat so far – thanks to some dominant performances in Europe.
However, there will certainly be some massive calls from Jose Mourinho ahead of the game. United also face Chelsea in their next league encounter – a game which will be vital for their season.
The likely result could be a rest for few of their superstars given the likely hood of qualification from the group stage.
Mourinho didn’t want to discuss the header at Stamford Bridge ahead of the game, but it surely will loom around his head. His club faced a humiliating defeat last season at Bridge losing 4-0 as Pedro scored an early goal to put Blues on a driving seat.
The Portuguese manager made it clear that he wants at least a point from the game- which will help United qualify to the knockout.
He said: “Our aim tomorrow is to qualify.
“Ten points would be okay, but our main aim is to qualify first in the group. Benfica will give us a difficult match. They have their own ambition and pride and they will try to win, we just want to get to the last 16 by finishing first in the group.”
