Leicester City vs Tottenham: The Foxes sink the hearts of Tottenham once again as a win in five puts Tottenham further behind the chasing pack in the Premier League.
Erik Lamela made a return to the match-day squad for the North London side after a year on sidelines.
The visitors desperately needed a win following their home draw against West Brom last weekend. The draw put them thirteen point behind league leaders, Manchester City and a point behind fourth placed Arsenal.
However, it was Leicester City who took the lead through Jamie Vardy early in the first half.
Jamie Vardy chirped the ball into the net, putting finishing touches to a cross from Marc Albrighton. The striker couldn’t have timed it any better with perfect control over his volley.
Spurs were dismantled, but the goal wasn’t against the run of play. Leicester dominated in the midfield and looked more threatening than the Lilywhites.
Eventually, it paid off once again when Riyad Mahrez struck a brilliant goal outside the d-box to double Leicester’s lead.
The Algerian gave Spurs captain Hugo Lloris no chance, but perhaps, the defenders should have closed down on the winger quicker.
As always, Harry Kane gave Tottenham lifeline once again with a goal late into the second half. Lamela slid in a ball in the English striker’s path who hit the ball with venom.
The defeat puts Tottenham a point below Arsenal, who have a game to play on Wednesday. The title race is over for the North London club for sure now, but the recent downfall makes you wonder whether top four could also be difficult for them.
The next challenge for Spurs is to face an impressive Watford away at Vicarage Road, while Leicester City host Burnley on Saturday.
