Ruthless Manchester United took apart Marco Silva’s men with goals from Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial providing a vital win.
The Red Devils will require all three points in all the matches before they take on their crosstown rivals, Manchester City in December.
City are flying high at the moment, but constant pressure could catch them slightly off the blip but it’s up to United to take an advantage.
They certainly had ambitions to do just that at the Vicarage Road when Ashley Young‘s drive provided them with a first half lead.
The English international was the name on the scoresheet once again as his well-timed freekick took a perfect swerve to slot past Heurelho Gomes. The goalkeeper had no chance, perhaps there are set-pieces which just can’t be stopped.
Meanwhile, Anthony Martial found himself in a one versus one situation again, with Manchester United ripping apart the home side in the space of few minutes.
Different story in the second half
The story was quite different in the second half. Watford looked more composed at the back while threatening the United goal.
Richarlison looked lively throughout the game but it was Troy Deeney‘s penalty which brought the Hornets back into the game.
Doucoure, Watford’s best player in the pitch, scored another one to reduce the deficit to one. Watford looked continue their late charge and push on for the third goal.
But it didn’t take Manchester United much time before Jesse Lingaard drove past the entire Watford team to score a brilliant solo-goal.
Paul Pogba provided his side with creative sparks time and again, which has given United a different dimension since his return from an injury.
The win reduces City’s lead to five points at the top, but the league leaders have a game in hand.
