Aston Villa agree deal to sign Moussa Diaby

Aston Villa are set to complete the signing of winger Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that Diaby said yes to Aston Villa’s offer last week and Villa have now also agreed a deal with Leverkusen for the player.

Villa’s initial offer of €35 million plus add-ons was rejected by the German club but their follow-up offer of €50 million plus €10 million in add-ons has reportedly been accepted.

Diaby will sign a 5-year contract with the club and is said to be excited by Unai Emery’s plans with the club. He has rejected a huge offer from Saudi club Al Nassr in favour of joining the Villans.

The 24-year-old reportedly only wanted a move to the Premier League as it has been a dream of his to play in the competition.

Villa are also going to feature in the UEFA Conference League in the upcoming season and that has also persuaded Diaby to agree to join them. They are looking to strengthen their squad according to the expected challenges of competing in Europe.

Diaby scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions last season for Leverkusen. He is considered to be one of the most exciting talents in the Bundesliga.

The Frenchman has made 172 appearances for Leverkusen having contributed with 49 goals and 48 assists. He joined them in 2019 from Paris Saint-Germain after coming through the French club’s youth academy.

Diaby has also earned 8 caps for the French national side since making his debut for Les Bleus in 2021.

Villa have managed to acquire one of the most exciting attacking talents in Europe. The winger can play off of either flank and possesses express pace with or without the ball. He is not only a decent finisher but also very creative in the final-third.

The Villans relied heavily on striker Ollie Watkins to get their goals last season and were in the market for someone who can ease the Englishman’s workload. Diaby is capable of doing that not only by adding goals but also assisting a few on the way.

The West Midlands club have already strengthened their squad by adding Pau Torres and Youri Tielemans to their squad. With the potential acquisition of Diaby, they will have to be considered serious challengers for the top European spots in the Premier League next season, especially under Unai Emery’s management.
