Aston Villa have reportedly expressed an interest in highly rated defensive-midfielder Tyler Adams from Leeds United.
The Athletic reported that Aston Villa have tracked the American for some time and are now looking to make an offer for him. He is high on Villa’s list of transfer targets this summer.
The 24-year-old was one of the only positives for Leeds in the 2022/23 Premier League season as they were relegated from the top flight after a 3-year stay.
Leeds want Adams to stay but the Championship is not the place he wants to play his football and would prefer a move back to the Premier League.
Villa are not the only side interested in the USMNT international as other clubs such as Arsenal, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Everton have all scouted him. The Villains could face a tough transfer battle.
Adams began his career with the Red Bull group and started at New York Red Bulls in 2016 before moving to RB Leipzig in 2019. He became one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe shortly after his move to Germany. He also made his international debut for the USA in 2017, at just 18.

Some reports suggest that Adams’ transfer may depend on whether or not Villa are able to sell Leander Dendoncker. Club captain John McGinn has signed a new contract at the club and there would be no space for 3 defensive midfielders in the team.
Dendoncker only joined the club in 2022, but since then has seen the manager who bought him get sacked. Unai Emery does not have the Belgian in his plans and is looking to replace him with Adams. He only played 24 games for the club last season.
Emery is keen on Adams and wants him to be a part of the club’s rebuild. The Spaniard is hoping to establish Villa as a regular top-half team with the ambition of competing in Europe more often than not.
He will need players with world-class qualities such as Adams if he is to do so. Emery was able to take Villa to 7th place after only taking over in November 2022. The club were hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone prior to that under Steven Gerrard.
Emery managed to take the team to qualify for the Europa Conference League and it would be interesting to see what he can do with an improved squad in a full new season. Under new ownership, Villa have also not shied away from spending and bringing in some world-class players.
