Ben Chilwell to sign new Chelsea contract

Chelsea fullback Ben Chilwell is on the verge of signing a new Chelsea contract until June 2027, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The club have stuttered this season and despite signing a host of new players, they currently languish at 11th in the table with no realistic hopes of a top-4 finish.

To balance the books, Chelsea will have to sell a number of players in the coming summer. But Chilwell has been identified as one of the players that are part of the future plans.

The fullback was signed from Leicester City for a fee around £45 million in the summer of 2020 after putting in impressive displays.

Although his time at Chelsea has been marred with injuries, Chilwell has shown the potential that earned him the move whenever he has played.

Marc Cucurella was signed from Brighton this summer due to Chilwell’s injury concerns, but the Spaniard’s mediocre performances have allowed him to come right back in.

In the more recent games, Cucurella has been switched to a left centre-back position, while Chilwell operates as a wingback to take advantage of his offensive capabilities.

Not a lot of Chelsea players will survive the change in ownership, but it looks like Chilwell is one that could wear the blue shirt for years to come.
