Midfielder-turned-full-back Ben Osborn went off injured in Sheffield United’s latest Premier League outing against champions Man City last Sunday.
Osborn went down to the floor holding his right leg after a City attack and had to leave the field after just 20 minutes into the game. It has now been confirmed that the Englishman is set to miss out with injury for an extended period of time.
“I don’t think it’s a good one,” said Sheffield United assistant manager Stuart McCall on Wednesday with regards to Osborn’s injury. He also confirmed that the player has suffered a groin injury. He also mentioned that the Englishman is set to see a specialist to learn the extent of his injury.
McCall said: “I think he is actually seeing a specialist tomorrow in London. It doesn’t look like it’s going to be a short-term one unfortunately. A simple sliding the ball down the line, he’s certainly done some major damage to the groin area, whether it’s a rupture we are not really sure but he’s seeing a specialist tomorrow.”
No return date from the injury has been announced yet but reports suggest it could take over six weeks for the 29-year-old to return back to training.

This injury left manager Paul Heckingbottom with a big headache as Osborn was filling in at left-wing-back for the injured Max Lowe, who has also been confirmed to be out with injury for an extended period of time himself.
Desperate after a sudden lack of options in the area, the Blades have managed to strike a year-long loan deal with Leicester City for left-back Luke Thomas on deadline day. The 22-year-old is going to be competing with new signing Yasser Larouci for the left-wing-back spot.
The Hatters have been hurt by their long injury list right at the start of the season. John Fleck, Rhian Brewster, Rhys Norrington-Davies, Daniel Jebbison and Anis Ben Slimane are all still sidelined with injuries while Lowe and Osborn have been added to the list.
But Oli McBurnie, Ismaila Coulibaly and Jayden Bogle were all named in the starting lineup for the club’s Carabao Cup Round 2 defeat to League 1 side Lincoln City on Wednesday. The trio has just returned from injury, providing Sheffield United fans with some positive news.
Heckingbottom’s men will face Everton in their next league outing on Saturday. No injured players are expected to return for this game but many at Bramall Lane are expecting to see some injured players back in their fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on September 16, right after the international break.
