Brighton agree club-record fee for Watford striker Joao Pedro

Watford striker Joao Pedro will be joining Brighton in a club-record move, according to an agreement in principle.

According to Sky Sports News, when the transfer market reopens in the summer, the 21-year-old Brazilian forward will be moving to the Seagulls.

It is anticipated to be a club record fee for Brighton, surpassing the sum paid in August 2019 to acquire defender Adam Webster from Bristol City for about £20 million.

Pedro has been a member of the Hornets since January 2020, but it appears that he will leave the team after successful two and a half seasons.

Pedro, who has scored 11 goals in 35 Championship games for Watford this season, has shown the potential needed to thrive in a top-tier competition.

Prior to Watford’s relegation from the Premier League last season, the Brazilian scored three times in 31 games.

In order to augment Evan Ferguson, Danny Welbeck, and Deniz Undav, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is trying to strengthen his attacking options.

Injury to Ferguson and Welbeck’s withdrawal from the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United have shown there’s certainly room in De Zerbi’s squad for another target man.
