Carney Chukwuemeka injury update: Another Chelsea star suffers injury

It appears as though Mauricio Pochettino was handed another blow on Sunday when West Ham coerced the West London club into a 3-1 loss, in addition to the outcome itself. Chelsea’s goal scorer from the London Stadium, Carney Chukwuemeka, suffered a knee injury and was taken away before halftime.

Given that the Blues are already without a number of first-team all-stars, including Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, and Wesley Fofana, the attacking midfielder will likely spend some time on the sidelines.

It won’t be known when the Englishman will recover from his knee injury until the extent of his problem is identified. Chukwuemeka will be evaluated on Monday, according to Mauricio Pochettino, who gave up an update on the youngster following his team’s loss against West Ham.

“We need to assess him tomorrow,” said the Chelsea boss. “There will be an assessment tomorrow with the doctor. We hope it’s not a big issue, but we need to wait.”

Early in the match, Chukwuemeka appeared to have a left knee injury after being challenged by former Chelsea player Emerson Palmieri. Then, just before halftime, he suffered an injury unrelated to any contact.

He received extensive medical attention before Chelsea’s medical staff assisted him in leaving the London Stadium field.

After taking over for the Englishman, Mykhailo Mudryk failed to make an impact in the second half, and Chukwuemeka was seen leaving the field on crutches.

The teenager might not have suffered an ACL tear, as so many others have before the start of the new season, but others have hypothesized that he might have experienced MCL or meniscus damage, which would call for a protracted healing process.
