Charlie Patino expected to leave Arsenal in the summer

Arsenal youngster Charlie Patino is expected to leave the club in the summer, as first reported by journalist David Ornstein.

Patino, who is currently on loan at Blackpool, has made 31 appearances this season in the EFL Championship and scored two goals.

He will turn 20 in October this year and is now looking to take his professional career to the next level with first-team opportunities.

This will be hard at a club like Arsenal, which has managed to mount a title challenge after a few years of recruitment under Mikel Arteta and Edu.

And while youngsters such as Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka managed to break into the team, the opportunities provided to youngsters early in Arteta’s tenure were higher.

With an established first 11 that will only be breached by established talent, Patino will likely only get minutes in the cup competitions.

Folarin Balogun, another of Arsenal’s young players, has also stated his intent to move to another club for first-team opportunities. Both do not intend to leave on loan again either.

Losing Patino as well will be a blow to The Gunners, who have built a reputation for nurturing young talent.
