Eric Dier Contract: With one year left Dier to fight for his position

According to rumors, Eric Dier does not want to leave Tottenham this summer, despite Ange Postecoglou’s intention to buy a new center defender.

The contract of the England international expires in 2024, which means he could leave the club ten years after joining from Sporting. In 2023, Dier is earning a base salary of £4,420,000, while carrying a cap hit of £4,420,000.

His stay in north London has been filled with highs and lows. From establishing himself as a regular starter for club and country to losing his position in Gareth Southgate’s team and then regaining his place for the 2022 World Cup, Dier’s quality has divided opinion.

Tottenham Hotspur have already confirmed the permanent acquisitions of Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario, and James Maddison. With no European football next season, new manager Postecoglou is still looking for a new centre-back, which may severely reduce Dier’s game time.

The Australian is interested in both Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven. According to The Telegraph, despite his dismal play in the second part of 2022/23, Dier does not want to leave Spurs.

According to the article, Dier wants to stay and battle for his spot under Postecoglou and will return for pre-season this weekend after missing England’s European Championship qualifiers earlier this month.

The 29-year-old is thrilled to be working with the former Celtic manager and has stated that he has no intention of leaving this summer.

Fortunately for him, the club has made no moves that indicate they intend to sell him, despite the fact that Tapsoba and Van de Ven are being considered.

It is also suggested that Postecoglou may rely on Dier’s leadership qualities following Hugo Lloris’ anticipated departure at the end of his contract.

While Dier is expected to stay, Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will be permitted to depart if an acceptable bid is received.

Atletico Madrid are thought to be interested but have yet to make an approach. Spurs are open to bids with two years remaining on the player’s deal.

Spurs are hoping to transfer ‘Davinson Sanchez, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Giovani Lo Celso, and Sergio Reguilon, while Harry Winks is set to join Leicester City,’ according to the source.
