Tottenham wing-back Ivan Perisic has suffered an ACL injury to his right knee, the Premier League club said on Wednesday.
The injury, which occurred during training, will necessitate surgery, and he will now miss the majority of the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
It is a massive setback for Tottenham, who have had a fantastic start to the season, winning four of their first five Premier League games.
Perisic had appeared in all five of the Lilywhites’ league games this season, coming off the bench in all of them and setting up Richarlison’s dramatic 98th-minute equalizer in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Sheffield United. The Croat will now miss Sunday’s critical North London Derby against Arsenal.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will be disappointed by his absence since he has made a strong start since taking over in the off-season.
Spurs are undefeated in the league, trailing leader Manchester City by two points. Perisic joined Tottenham from Inter Milan last year and has appeared in 50 games, scoring one goal.
Perisic took to social media for the first time since news of the injury broke yesterday, sending out an iconic quote from basketball legend Michael Jordan. Writing on Instagram, the Croatian international said: “‘Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it or work around it.’ M. Jordan.”
