Liverpool have reportedly advanced in talks with Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
Liverpool had pulled out of the race for the player earlier but new rounds of talks with Szoboszlai’s representatives on Monday have ignited their chase.
Fabrizio Romano reported that negotiations between RB Leipzig and Liverpool are also well advanced and progressing to the ‘final stages.’ There seem to be no issues on the player’s side as he wants to join the Reds.
Some reports have suggested that Szoboszlai has a release clause in his contract worth £60 million, but that clause is set to expire on Friday, 30th June, which is the end of the footballing year.
Currently, there are no concrete updates on the transfer sum that Liverpool are going to pay but a deal can be done very quickly by triggering the release clause this late on. Leipzig have reportedly always expected a late bid for the player.
Leipzig and Liverpool have already been in contact this transfer window as Fabio Carvalho is set to go out on loan to the German club from Liverpool.

Earlier, Newcastle United were said to be interested in Szoboszlai but no deal was discussed between the clubs. It appears as though the Magpies have now pulled out of the race.
The Hungarian scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists last season. He also helped his team lift the DFB Pokal trophy. He has played over 60 games for RB Leipzig after joining from sister club RB Salzburg in 2021.
The Red Bull group signed him at Salzburg in 2018 from FC Liefering, where he made his professional senior debut. He also has 32 caps for the Hungarian national side.
Liverpool are in the middle of a big shake-up in their midfield for the first time in Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at the club. They have already signed Alexis Mac Allister and are trying to add more dynamic players in the middle of the park.
They have also shown interest in other midfielders such as Nicolo Barella, Ryan Gravenberch and the French duo of Kephren Thuram and Manu Kone.
But Szoboszlai’s talent is really appreciated at Liverpool. His ball-carrying ability, creativity and dynamism across midfield can make him a successful player in the Premier League. He also possesses good technical ability and a strong mentality has seen him become the captain of his national side at just the age of 22.
