Manchester City prepare bid to sign Frenkie de Jong

According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, Manchester City are interested in signing Frenkie de Jong. And the Premier League winners are willing to pay €110 million to capture the 26-year-old midfielder from Barcelona.

After missing out on Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, Pep Guardiola has personally requested his signing.

Frenkie de Jong has been one of Barcelona’s most reliable players since joining from Ajax in July 2019. A crucial player for his club and country, the Dutch international has overcome adversity to become a Blaugrana staple in the middle of the park. However, his future at Barcelona remains uncertain due to the club’s ongoing financial difficulties.

The 26-year-old has played 183 times for Barcelona, contributing 15 goals and 21 assists. De Jong has also made over 50 appearances for the Netherlands.

However, given that he is still Barcelona’s most valuable asset, the player’s future is unknown. And Manchester City will try to sign him during the summer transfer window.

Pep Guardiola is looking to bolster Manchester City’s midfield this summer. The Premier League winners have lost Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona. Furthermore, Bernardo Silva’s future at the Etihad is unknown because he wishes to embark on a new adventure.

Manchester City will therefore try to buy a top-tier midfielder during the current transfer window. They were also interested in signing Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice for the 2023/24 season. However, while Bellingham has joined Real Madrid, Rice is set to ply his trade for Arsenal.

However, it is uncertain when de Jong will be ready to leave Barcelona. The 26-year-old has stated numerous times that he is pleased and content at Camp Nou.

Therefore, Manchester City may have a difficult time convincing the Dutch international to join them this summer.
