Manchester United willing to pay £65m release clause for Diogo Costa

Diogo Costa, a target of Manchester United, is expected to go to the Premier League this summer, according to rumors in Portugal, while David de Gea’s future is in question.

As Porto lost their final league game on Saturday and fell short of winning the Primeira Liga, star player Costa appeared to wave the club’s supporters goodbye.

Sergio Conceicao’s side won 3-0, but so did rivals Benfica, who took the championship by two points.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Costa, Portugal’s top custodian, appears to be on the verge of joining English football.

United is reportedly ready to meet the 23-year-old’s £65 million release clause. Costa appears to be the custodian manager Erik ten Hag is looking to bring into his team.

The 12-cap international is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes, who has a lot of clout in England and might be able to facilitate a transfer.

At Old Trafford, the Dragons’ No. 99 player might play with international teammates Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.

Costa, Porto’s first-choice this season, once played an astounding 16 games without giving up a goal.

Only league champions, Benfica, who allowed 20 goals this season, had a better league defense than Porto’s 22 goals conceded.

The announcement comes amid concerns regarding David de Gea’s future in the starting lineup at Old Trafford.

Although De Gea has made some costly errors this season, he still won the Golden Glove award for the most clean sheets in a Premier League season.
