Manchester United interested in signing James Ward-Prowse

According to Football Insider, Manchester United have found a solution for Erik Ten Hag’s problems in their midfield. James Ward-Prowse, the captain of Southampton, has reportedly become a target for Manchester United.

Ward-Prowse has played his whole professional career for Southampton but might leave this summer. The fact that Ruben Selles team is probably headed for the drop makes it difficult for them to hold onto the England international.

However, to sign Prowse, United would have to outbid rivals like Tottenham, Newcastle, and Aston Villa to land the player. Yet, the club is seriously considering him.

After failing to recruit Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona last summer, they acquired Casemiro from Real Madrid, a transaction still out of reach this year.

Although Casemiro has improved United’s midfield, his recent absences – which coincided with Christian Eriksen’s absence – have highlighted how United still lack depth in the area.

Scott McTominay might try to leave in the summer. Marcel Sabitzer’s future still needs to be discussed following his loan from Bayern Munich.

Ward-Prowse now appears to be on United’s desire list. How much they could pay to sign him is yet unknown.

The Saints have a contract with the expert in free kicks through 2026. But Southampton’s negotiation position would be weakened if they were to slip to the Championship.

As Ward-Prowse has scored nine goals in 36 appearances this season and 53 goals in 400 games throughout his Southampton career, Manchester United may think they have a good chance of signing him.
