Naby Keita could leave Liverpool as free agent in the summer

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita could leave the club in the summer as a free agent, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist reported that there were no advanced talks ongoing for the midfielder, who is set to be out of contract in the summer.

Keita’s time at Liverpool has been marred by injuries, with the midfield never nailing down a regular spot in the midfield. He has made just six appearances this season, which has seen Liverpool’s form declining drastically.

Keita signed for the club from RB Leipzig back in August 2017 for a total of £52.75 million, an initial £48 million release clause plus £4.75 million as Leipzig came sixth and qualified for the Europa League that season.

With big money being paid, and Keita only aged 21 at the time, the expectations were high for the player to thrive for years to come. But his time at the club hasn’t gone down as planned.

And now, with the club struggling, fans are calling for a squad overhaul. Keita could be one of the immediate ones to be axed as Klopp is expected to freshen up the squad in the summer.
