Italian giants AC Milan are keen on a move to bring Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek to San Siro. His time at his boyhood club might be over as the Blues look to trim down their huge squad.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Milan consider Loftus-Cheek as a priority target and negotiations have begun. The deal would be a permanent transfer but no transfer fee has yet been reported.
Loftus-Cheek is reported to be very keen on the move. The Englishman has struggled for game-time as he has failed to break into the Chelsea first-team.
It is also being reported that the player is willing to take a pay cut to sign for Milan in the hope of more regular first-team football. Former teammate Fikayo Tomori is understood to be encouraging Loftus-Cheek to join the club.
Chelsea, under new ownership, have made a huge investment in their midfield bringing in Enzo Fernandez to an already star-studded roster that includes the likes of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic.
This, paired with Loftus-Cheek’s inability to grasp the opportunities he has been given in the last few years, has led to him being on the team’s fringes. He never quite fulfilled the potential that many believed he possessed.
Loftus-Cheek came through the Chelsea youth setup at Cobham and was tipped to be a star in the future. He made his debut for the Blues back in 2014. Regular injuries throughout his career have seen him struggle to live up to his potential.
Loftus-Cheek was sent on loan to Crystal Palace for the 2017/18 season and to Fulham more recently for the 2020-21 season and impressed sporadically at both clubs. But, he has failed to break into the Chelsea first-team regularly enough.
The now 27-year-old was involved regularly in the first part of this season but slowly his minutes in the first team started to decrease.
Loftus-Cheek has made just over 150 appearances for Chelsea and has played 10 times for his national side England. Now he is looking for a fresh start with a move away from Chelsea and the Premier League.
