Manchester United’s latest signing Sofyan Amrabat has withdrawn from the Moroccan squad due to injury.
United announced the signing of the Moroccan international in the last hours of the deadline day of the summer transfer window. He joined on a season-long loan with an option to buy after long drawn out negotiations between United and Fiorentina.
It has been reported by the Athletic that the medical staff at Carrington detected a minor back injury during the midfielder’s medical prior to the completion of the signing. The issue was not diagnosed to be serious though and the signing was completed.
The two clubs agreed on a £8 million loan fee with an option to buy next summer for a fee of £21 million.
Even though the injury was not diagnosed to be a serious problem, Amrabat has withdrawn from his national side’s camp, leaving doubts in the minds of United supporters over when they will see their newest signing in action.
A statement from the Moroccan FA read: “The national team coach, Mr. Walid Regragui, summoned the player, Yahya Jeeran, to replace the injured Sofiane Amrabat.”

The 27-year-old was called up for Morocco’s fixtures against Liberia and Burkina Faso as the semi-finalists from last year’s FIFA World Cup prepare for the African Cup of Nations starting in January 2024.
It is not yet known how long Amrabat could potentially be out injured. Erik ten Hag would be hoping it is not for very long as he does not want to see his latest signing added to the already-long injury list.
The Red Devils are currently dealing with an injury crisis with as many as nine outfield players sidelined at the moment. Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo are part of the injury list meaning they are short of options in midfield if Amrabat is out for a few weeks.
The midfielder did travel to Morocco but is now set to depart the national camp. It is unclear whether he will return back to Manchester or work on his fitness on his own until United’s next Premier League game after the international break.
They will face Brighton and Hove Albion on September 16 and the Moroccan will still be hoping to make his debut for the club in that game. The Red Devils will also face Bayern Munich in the Champions League four days after that.
Ten Hag, Amrabat and the United fans will be hoping that he can start life at Old Trafford as early as possible and help the team out after a tough start to the season.
