Tottenham interested in Edmond Tapsoba

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been in contact with Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba over a potential move.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have had concrete contacts with Tapsoba and are working towards securing an agreement with the player. There have been no final agreements yet but he seems to be keen on joining Spurs.

The Burkinabe has been on Tottenham’s list for a long time and they are now moving in on their target as they are exploring both the potential transfer sum and the personal terms.

Tapsoba currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen in the German top flight and has become a regular starter for the club. He has played over 100 times for the club since joining them in 2020. He also made his international debut for Burkina Faso in 2016 at just 17.

Spurs conceded 63 goals in the league last season and are looking to improve on their defence for next season. There are already question marks over the future of Clement Lenglet and Davinson Sanchez is set to leave the club.

Eric Dier has underperformed last season and the general mood around Spurs is that they need to find a solid partner to play alongside World Cup winner Christian Romero. Other names such as Victor Nelsson are also linked with Spurs and they might need to bring in more than just one centre-back.

Tottenham is a very difficult place to go to at the moment, especially as a defender. After finishing 8th in the table, Spurs are expected to spend a lot of money in order to help solve the problems though.

Chairman Daniel Levy will probably have to spend more than he would like to as he also needs to back new boss Ange Postecoglou in his first season. The task could get especially difficult if Harry Kane also leaves the club.

Nonetheless, the Premier League would be a great next step for Tapsoba as the 24-year-old has a huge reputation and still has a lot to improve in his game. He will get a chance to showcase his skills at a much higher level.

Spurs are not genuinely expected to challenge for the top four next season but Tapsoba would be looking to impress in a new country with more eyes on him. He will be looking to make that spot in the defence line his own.
